Roast My Email
Submit your email for a brutally honest (but helpful) review. The crew holds nothing back.
Featured Roast
The email
Monthly newsletter from a SaaS company. 6 images, no alt text, 3 different fonts, "Click here" as the only CTA, sent to 50,000 people with no segmentation.
Frida on design
Three fonts? That's not a newsletter, that's a ransom note. Pick one serif, one sans-serif, and make peace with your choices.
Petros on the list
50,000 people, no segmentation. You're not sending a newsletter, you're shouting into a stadium and hoping someone cares.
Quill on copy
'Click here' is not a CTA. Click here for what? To escape this email? Give people a reason.
Lyra on engagement
No alt text on 6 images means half your audience sees 6 empty rectangles and a prayer.

What would fix this
- Drop to two fonts max. One for headings, one for body. Frida has cards for this.
- Add alt text to every image. Describe the content, not the file name. See Frida's accessibility guide.
- Replace "Click here" with a specific action: "See the new features" or "Read the full post." Quill's CTA cards can help.
- Segment before you send. Active users, lapsed users, and brand new signups should not get the same email. Atlas covers segmentation.
- Run a pre-send checklist before every campaign. Start here.
